GAT Microencapsulation AG was founded in 1999 as GAT Formulation GmbH by a group of highly specialized scientists to provide R&D and analytical services to the industry. Staying true to our passion for R&D we quickly realized our dream and built our own research labs to offer analytical and formulation services as well as to develop portfolio technologies. After a few years of encouraging growth and positive response from our partners we established state of the art laboratories and manufacturing facilities at a new site in 2003.

In 2004, GAT Food Essentials was founded as a division of GAT Formulation GmbH focusing exclusively on functional food ingredients by combining an innovative, patented technology with scientifically substantiated ingredients. Commercial product launches of functional foods and beverages containing GAT's microencapsulated omega-3 PUFAs in different categories - including dairy products, beverages, cereals and baked goods - followed shortly thereafter.

By 2005 GAT had established a global presence with distribution networks and industrial partners in all major markets. Simultaneously, GAT successfully coordinated a cooperative research project funded by the European Union's Sixth Framework Programme with the title "French Paradox - Red Wine Extract Food Additives" with 16 partner institutions located throughout the European Union.

In 2006 GAT announced a partnership with Denomega Nutritional Oils A.S., a division of Norwegian Orkla A.S.A./Borregaard Food Ingredients, at the Natural Products Expo West in Anaheim, CA. Attractive and continuous sales growth in Latin America led to the establishment of local sales offices in Miami, FL for the AMERICAS region.

Most recently, GAT Food Essential’s legal entity GAT Formulation GmbH has changed its name to GAT Microencapsulation AG. The changes were implemented at the turn of 2006/2007 to reflect the company’s dynamic growth and to create a solid basis for further expansion in a global and ever changing market.
